WOW, what an amazing couple of weeks it's been first of all gathering all the glassy goodies I've made over the past months and secondly, having them on public display at the CAN. Yvette O'Neill, the curator at CAN, did an absolutely fabulous job of displaying my work which has resulted in a number of sales and commissions. The exhibition and resultant sales has certainly been a great affirmation of my work.
Despite coming back from Melbourne with a horrid cold and no voice, I had a fabulous four days learning how to create bas relief in glass and it was the first time I had ever worked with powdered glass. Combine bas relief with powdered glass, and mix it up with a few droplets of water for effect, and you've got some very interesting techniques to play with. Bas relief block pattern using a variety of blue powdered glass, sprinkle of water and crackle technique. Basic bas relief glass with Art Deco "rising sun" motif.
Below is a photo summary of the vessel I constructed at Karl Harron's "The Perfect Vessel" (or nearly perfect!) workshop last September in Perth using two glasses that react with each other (dense white and vanilla).
There were nine of us on the course which lasted a full 7 days, starting at 9am and often going past 5pm. We made about 30 sample tiles as well as our perfect vessel, which provided lots of fun, laughs, plus opportunities for experimenting and learning. |
AuthorI'm a busy person in my "day job" and find fused glass a great creative outlet. I love to experiment with all the wonderful colours Archives
